Debian SoftwareDebian is an exceedingly nifty Linux (and other) distribution for ix86 (and other) architectures. It has a package management system second to none. And I have some packages for it. These are not official Debian packages. If they were, they'd be in the main archive. I am working on getting them accepted, but other things are pressing at the moment. Until then, you'll have to tell your Debian system to look here as well as on the main Debian servers. You can do this by adding the following two lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file: deb http://www.cowlark.com/debian.dat/ ./ deb-src http://www.cowlark.com/debian.dat/ ./ Be warned. Adding sites to your sources.list file is potentially insecure. I, of course, am as honest as the day is long and would never dream of doing anything that would compromise your system, but don't get into the habit of adding stuff willy-nilly to your sources.list. Once you update your package database, you can use dselect or apt-cache to find them. Here's a brief summary of what's available:
Source packages are, of course, available for everything. Binaries are ix86 only, I'm afraid --- that's all I've got. Even if you're not a Debian user, you can still benefit. Debian source packages are perfectly ordinary .tar.gz archives, just like all other Unix software. Usually there's a diff file to go with it that provides bug fixes and extra functionality.
So you can take advantage of the work I've done packaging these up to get easy-to-compile source for whatever platform you have. IF you do, please drop me a note; I'd be interested to see what use people get of them. |
